I think there's a difference in what men and women see as being a douche bag.
I think that men see an asshole guy and women see a confident guy that goes for what he wants.
What spreads the stereotype is that guys fail with women and see other guys that they think of as assholes having a lot of success.
They decide to be more of an asshole to women and then they start having success. But what they saw as being an asshole,
